Krystal Howell
Hi, I'm Krystal and I'm running for re-election as Village of Pelham Trustee. Learn more about me below and I'd be honored to have your support this November!
Candidate Statement
To my Pelham neighbors,
It has been one of the great honors of my life to serve as a Trustee for the Village of Pelham, and I am proud to seek re-election to continue the work of moving our village forward with purpose, transparency, and care. Pelham is more than the place I live. It’s where three generations of my family have called home, where I met my husband as a teenager, and where we chose to raise our twins through Pelham schools, athletics, and community programs. My love for this village runs deep, and so does my commitment to serving every resident with respect and empathy.
During my first term, I have faithfully translated residents’ concerns into practical, community-centered solutions. I supported pedestrian safety efforts, including the hiring of a Traffic Safety Officer, advocated for our village’s needs with other levels of government, and collaborated with neighboring municipalities on shared quality-of-life issues. I have also been proud to support the Downtown Improvement Grant and related efforts that strengthen our local business district, attract investment, and help ensure that Pelham’s small businesses remain vibrant, welcoming, and central to village life.
I am also deeply committed to Pelham’s sustainability and storm resilience efforts. Flooding is not just a safety and infrastructure issue. For so many of our neighbors, it’s become a significant threat to their homes, families, and peace of mind. I have spent many hours working with engineers, construction experts, municipal bodies, and regional partners to better understand our stormwater challenges and advocate for thoughtful, long-term solutions. As we plan for the future, I will continue pushing for responsible investments that protect residents, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure that no neighborhood in our village is left behind.
My professional experience has prepared me to meet this moment. I have 25 years of experience in the energy sector, with expertise in construction and project management, contractor oversight, budgeting, financial, planning and analysis, safety and environmental compliance, emergency response support, and capital and operations/maintenance program management. As a CPA and construction sector leader, I have managed large portfolios, supported work exceeding $2 billion annually, and coordinated with engineering, estimation and operations, environmental health and safety, supply chain, union personnel, and contractors, and led teams responsible for significant infrastructure and field operations. That background allows me to approach village priorities with a steady hand, a data-driven mindset, fiscal discipline, and a clear understanding of how to ensure complex projects actually succeed.
Just as importantly, I bring years of community service and board experience. Long before serving as Trustee, I was active as PTA Council President, served on local PTA boards, participated in the Pelham Together Diversity Committee, the school district’s Cultural Competency Committee, Bridges of Pelham, the Village Steering Committee on Police Reform, and spearheaded the free drop-in math tutoring at the high school after COVID. As Trustee, I serve as liaison to the Council on the Arts and the Fire Department, helping bridge communication, support budget development, and strengthen trust between the Village Board, public servants, and the community. Beyond Pelham, I have served on boards and committees with both domestic and international firms, bringing experience in governance, collaboration, leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional problem-solving.
My leadership style is action-oriented, collaborative, and resourceful. I listen carefully, ask questions, build relationships, and work to turn good ideas into tangible results. I believe effective local government requires transparency, accountability, and a willingness to work across differences to make our community thrive. I also believe that every resident deserves to feel seen, heard, and represented in the decisions that shape our village’s future generations.
My commitment to public service is rooted in both lived experience and family legacy. As a descendant of civil rights leader Septima Poinsette Clark, often called “the Mother of the Movement,” I was raised to believe that servant leadership is both a responsibility and a calling. That legacy continues to guide how I lead: by listening with humility, acting with courage, and remaining accountable to the people I serve.
If re-elected, I will continue focusing on the priorities that shape residents’ daily lives: storm resiliency, infrastructure, sustainability, public and pedestrian safety, support for our local businesses, and enhanced village-wide communication. I believe we can continue building a Pelham that is more vibrant, safer, and more welcoming to all. I will continue to approach this work with transparency, collaboration, and fiscal discipline, always guided by the understanding that our decisions today shape the Pelham our children and grandchildren will inherit.
I am grateful for the trust residents have placed in me, and I humbly ask for your endorsement again to continue this important work, which will benefit every resident and reflects the very best of who we are as a community. Together we are four neighborhoods. But we are one community. Collectively, we can keep Pelham moving forward for today’s residents and for the generations who will inherit the village we shape now. We are Pelham strong together!
